Each student-athlete is viewed as an individual whose general health, fitness and emotional development are of significant value. The Athletics Department takes pride in its compatibility with the mission of the university and recognizes the opportunity to give Fayetteville State University recognition on the state, regional and national levels.Description of Work Continued::Primary Purpose of the Position:The Assistant Football Coach (Defensive Coordinator) is a key member of the institution's NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics staff and reports directly to the Head Football Coach and Director of Athletics. The primary purpose of the Assistant Football Coach's (Defensive Coordinator) position is to oversee and be responsible for the University's football program under the direction of the Head Football Coach. This is a 12-month position.The Assistant Football Coach must be an advisor, manager, teacher, boss, role model and leader. The incumbent assists with the overall management of the football program and must possess superior football knowledge, be highly organized, and able to meet deadlines.Duties and Responsibilities:Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, practice and game preparation, on-field coaching, scheduling, NCAA and CIAA compliance, public relations, student-work supervision, recruitment of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes, a commitment to the student-athlete's academic progress and degree completion, and other duties as assigned by the Head Football Coach or Director of Athletics.The general details inherent to the principle functions of the position includes assisting with the following:1.Administration, supervision and development of the football program for competition2.Recruit, train, and coach members of the football program.3.Plan, conduct, and formulate practice sessions; manage field care and maintenance4.Attendance at all home and away contests5.Coordinate recruitment of talented student-athletes for football team6.Perform administrative duties pertaining to the football program including budget formulation7.Encourage the academic progress, in conjunction with the faculty, of student-athletes toward graduation; assist student-athletes in obtaining academic advisement as needed8.Promote the university, the Athletics Department and the football team through public relations activities and Sports Information Office9.Maintain a professional level of conduct, including compliance with Conference and NCAA legislation10.Coordinate and supervise fund raising activities for the football program11.Attend and participate in departmental, conference, and college-wide meetings related to duties and responsibilities12.Serve on departmental, conference, regional and national committees, as requested13.Assist the Head Football Coach, Director of Athletics, and Athletics Department staff in additional responsibilities as neededMinimum Education and Experience Requirements::1. Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of collegiate coaching experience required.2. The successful candidate must have a clear understanding of the NCAA Division IIphilosophy and regulations, as well as knowledge of basketball DII rules and working knowledge of intercollegiate athletics.3. Possess a current valid driver's license; availability for frequent regional travel.4. Demonstrate strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skillsincluding the ability to effectively communicate with student-athletes, parents, the media and alumni.5. Demonstrate strong leadership, solid planning and organizational abilities, and theability to multi-task and problem solve.6. Candidate should be highly motivated with the ability to work independently aswell as collaboratively and the ability to work in a team oriented environment withdiverse students, faculty, staff, alumni, the public, and the media.7. Proficient computer literacy skills (familiarity with Microsoft Office, HUDL, StatCrew, and other applications preferred).8. Commitment to, and support of, a diverse community9. Athletic event schedule will require the individual to work frequent weekends and evenings and occasional holidaysKnowledge skills and abilities::Knowledge:Strong working knowledge and understanding of NCAA, CIAA, and institutional rules and regulations. Superior football knowledge and experience with social media marketing methodology.*Skills: *Strong interpersonal skills, computer skills, effective organizational and managerial skills are needed.Ability to:Establish and maintain effective working relationships both in and out of the office workplace; possess the ability to foster and maintain working relationships with student-athletes, administrators, individuals representing other departments in the university system, the corporate industry, and the surrounding community.Perform job duties with tremendous accuracy; Have an outstanding work ethic.Handle a multitude of tasks and requests concurrently; Deal with the ever-changing needs of the unit; Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.Move or lift up to 50 pounds; Do sedentary work with the ability to do some walking, standing, typing, talking, and hearing.Preferred Qualifications::Master's degree Possess current first aid / CPR / AED certification or ability to gain certification within 30 days of hire.5-7 years of defensive coordinator experienceOpen Until Filled::YesAdditional Information for Applicants:All new employees are required to have listed credentials/degrees verified prior to employment.
