Position Summary Morehead Planetarium and Science Center is looking for talented high school students aged 16 or older to work in our Summer Science Camps from June 8 – August 7, 2026. We offer exciting, hands-on summer camps to kids from rising kindergarten to rising eighth grade. During the summer, campers explore different areas of science through experiential lessons and unique engagement opportunities. If you are passionate about working with children, science, or education, please consider sharing your excitement with campers in Chapel Hill as a Summer Camp Assistant Counselor. Our staff enjoys a schedule that is flexible around summer plans! There will be mandatory camp training May 30 – June 1, 2026. Job duties include: Training on science content and curricula geared towards kids ages 5-13 (If you don’t have a science background, don’t worry – we’ll teach you!) Learning best practices for teaching camp activities, including working with campers with special needs, using inclusive teaching methods, classroom management support, and general camp management Co-leading and assisting with science activities for groups of up to 20 campers with a Lead Counselor and Counselor-In-Training Supervising campers to ensure they are safe and having fun Communicating with camp administrators involving camp incidents, materials needs, and general camp updates Work Schedule Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (up to 40 hours per week during camp weeks) ~15 hours for content training in May
