Job Opportunity – ED Holding Support RN – North Carolina Start Date: March 2, 2026 Location: Wilmington, North Carolina Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants Schedule: Night shift, 36 hours per week, every other weekend required, 13-week contract Highlights: Emergency Department holding unit supporting patients awaiting inpatient bed placement with medical/surgical and PCU-level acuity Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:6-1:7 for MS/Telemetry patients or 1:3-1:4 for PCU-level patients Epic charting system with Pyxis medication management and SBAR communication protocols Fast-paced, high-acuity environment with diverse adult patient diagnoses and comprehensive interdisciplinary support Float pool position with exposure to Emergency Department, Medical/Surgical, and Telemetry areas as needed 12-hour unit orientation with ongoing annual module training Requirements: Current North Carolina or Compact state RN license required at start Minimum 2 years of RN experience in Medical/Surgical or Telemetry nursing BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred Must pass EKG testing prior to start date Core competencies: telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, blood product administration, IV therapy, peripheral and PICC line management, high-flow nasal cannula, BiPAP/CPAP, chest tube management, isolation precautions, and rapid response team utilization Preferred skills: IV insulin protocols, hemodialysis management, central line care, CVA care, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord and traumatic brain injury, orthopedic trauma, wound care/wound vac Flu vaccination required; COVID-19 vaccination not required Flexibility to float to multiple units based on facility needs and census Why It's a Great Opportunity: This position offers exceptional experience in a dynamic ED holding environment where you'll care for a wide variety of adult medical/surgical patients while building critical thinking and adaptability skills.
