Job Description:
Smart Moms is recruiting for a part-time Litigation Attorney on
behalf of a long-standing, trusted client, an established
Raleigh-based small law firm known for high-quality work in
licensing, ethics, and disciplinary matters. The firm’s principals
have more than 30 years of experience and seek an attorney to join
their team, with most work performed remotely. This is a
regulatory/administrative practice focused on professional
licensing, discipline, and ethics. This attorney will assist in
representing some professional boards and represent individual
professionals before other licensing boards. The candidate must
live in the Raleigh-Durham area, be available to cover client
issues during normal business hours but otherwise would have a
flexible schedule, with the rare evening and Saturday client
obligations. The position is structured as an independent
contractor role on an initial basis, and malpractice insurance is
included. Serious candidates should submit their resumes, cover
letters, salary requirements, and a writing sample written solely
by the applicant. Training will be provided for new areas of
practice. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements The
candidate must be licensed by the North Carolina State Bar and have
at least one to two years of legal practice experience, though more
is preferred. The candidate will be expected to handle hearings and
conferences, take depositions, and draft responses, orders,
pleadings, discovery, memorandum of law, and other related legal
documents. Ideal candidates possess excellent academic credentials
along with strong research, writing, oral, and organizational
skills. One to two years of litigation experience is preferred.
Candidates should be able to work independently, demonstrate a
strong work ethic, and collaborate well. Familiarity with e-filing
in state and federal court is a plus. Skills include: Providing
confident and well-reasoned counsel to clients on a variety of
legal topics Effective communication and negotiation skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel Developing
litigation strategies Experience with trial preparation, including
written discovery, depositions, oral argument, and examination of
witnesses Compensation and Hours Pay: $60–$70 per hour depending
upon experience Weekly Hours: Initially 15–20 hours The potential
for additional hours and transition to W-2 employee are
anticipated.
