The Associate Vice Chancellor for Faculty Affairs ( AVCFA ) reports directly to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and works with deans and department chairs to recruit and retain highly qualified faculty members who will help advance the mission and strategic plan of Fayetteville State University. (Strategic Plan 1.1) The AVCFA will also assist in the daily operations of the division of academic affairs and will serve as the representative of the provost in his/her absence. Specific responsibilities in each of these areas.

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The position reports to the Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs who ensures that a quality educational experience is available to students who enroll at Fayetteville State University. As part of the Provost Office, the Vice Chancellor for Academic & Faculty Affairs provides the executive leadership in assisting the Provost in the overall planning, organizing, and controlling of the academic program areas, implement strategies to promote FSU goals and priorities with a focus on academic excellence, collaborations, and quality for shared academic programs.

Description of Work Continued: 30% - Faculty Personnel:

  • Works with deans and department chairs to ensure effectiveness of faculty recruitment processes and compliance with FSU policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that annual faculty evaluations are completed according to FSU policies and procedures.
  • Monitors progression of tenure-track faculty members through probationary contracts and informs faculty, deans, and department chairs of pending reappointment decisions.
  • Ensures that all recommendations for reappointment, non-re-appointment, tenure, promotion, and post-tenure review comply with FSU policies and procedures, to include the provision of due process for all faculty members.
  • Serves as information resources for faculty, department chairs, and deans regarding questions about faculty employment.
  • Leads review and revision, as appropriate, of FSU policies pertaining to recruitment, re-appointment, tenure, and post-tenure review of faculty.
  • Other duties related to faculty personnel as needed. 30%- Faculty Development :
    • Works with Director of Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning ( CITL ) to provide a wide range of faculty development opportunities to support instructional innovation, advisement, research, and other related areas.
    • Ensures efficient use of and accountability for funds that support faculty development, to include travel as available.
    • Helps to provide effective faculty development opportunities that address the special needs of new faculty members.
    • Collaborates with department chairs, deans, and faculty to ensure that the annual faculty evaluation each year is used to guide faculty development in the following year.
    • Assists faculty members, department chairs, and deans in the development of plans for improvement. 20% - Academic Affairs Administration:
      • Approves on behalf of the provost requests for course substitutions and waivers; exceptions to deadlines for registration, dropping classes, class and university withdrawals; and other similar matters.
      • Serves as information resource for interpreting academic policies and regulations.
      • Represents Academic Affairs to internal and external committees, agencies, and others.
      • Assists with the daily operations of the Academic Affairs division.
      • Performs other duties as needed. 20%- Supervisory Responsibilities:
        • Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (director, four staff members)
        • Administrative Assistant
        • Academic Affairs division in the absences of the provost. Minimum Education And Experience Requirements: A possession of a doctorate (Ph. D) and demonstrated academic administrative leadership experience in higher education; at least five years of experience in administering faculty personnel policies and procedures; a record of professional achievements in teaching, service, and research commensurate with faculty appointment at the rank of professor.
